In Assembly, Japanese photographer Osamu Yokonami (b. 1967, Kyoto) explores individuality within collectivity. Groups of children dressed in identical clothing are posed against mountains, forests, and fields, their subtle differences visible only in gesture and expression. The tension between uniformity and personal identity runs through the series, raising questions of belonging, conformity, and freedom.
Yokonami lives and works in Tokyo. His photographs have been exhibited widely in Japan and internationally, and his work appears regularly in publications and cultural projects worldwide.
